What the heck (zt)
Heck这个词的用法很难一下子讲清楚，简单地说，它是hell比较委婉的说法，是很多人的口头禅之一（包括我）。
今天着重介绍的是what the heck的用法。这句话基本上可以翻译成“搞什么嘛？”用来表示迷惑、诧异、懊恼等等。比如：
That speech was pure gibberish. I was like "What the heck?" from start to finish. （那个演讲根本就是天书。我从头到尾都在问“搞什么飞机啊？”，一头雾水。）
Agassi lost in the first round? What the heck!?? （阿加西居然第一轮就输了？搞什么鬼啊？）
They knew you couldn't swim and still pushed you into the pool? What the heck! （他们知道你不会游泳还把你推下水？搞什么嘛！）
What the heck不一定要单独成句，也可以作为一句话的一部分，这时候它往往就是what的意思，只不过比较强调一些。比如：
What the heck are you talking about? （你到底在说什么啊？）
上面提到heck是hell比较委婉的说法，这也就意味着what the hell和what the heck意思相同，只不过what the hell比较粗鲁一些，what the heck相对来说则斯文一些。上面给出的所有例句，都可以用what the hell来代替what the heck。如果你是一个跟我一样讨厌粗口的人，建议你使用what the heck。
P.S. 其实what the hell也不算粗口。还有一个相同意思的说法，是what the fuck，才是真正的脏话，在书面表达的时候经常缩写为WTF，往往在特别气愤的时候使用。同理，what the heck/ hell也可以缩写为WTH，不过不太常用。（因为不是脏话，没必要缩写。）
